Race Week!

This is just a short little update, but this weekend is the Little Rock Half Marathon.  I’ve been training for this race since a little bit after Thanksgiving, so it has been awhile, but strangely, it doesn’t seem like it should be here already.  I have a very specific goal for this race: run a sub-2 hour half-marathon.  This was the same goal that I had for the Austin LIVESTRONG Half-Marathon last year, but was unsuccessful. So I have to meet the goal this year.

I have been a little emotionally up and down about feeling confident about my goal.  I don’t want to sabotage myself with negative thoughts, so I’ve been trying to focus on the positive things that will help me accomplish my goals.  Here is a list of positive things I’ve been focusing on:

  • My results from the River Trail 15K.  I ran the race with an average pace of 8:45, which is a little faster than the pace I’ll have to run the half marathon.
  • The weather.  Right now, the forecast for Sunday has a low of 29° and a high of 45° and sunny skies.  This is really very nice weather for running.
  • My friends!  The glory of running a local race is that there will be tons of people that I know.  Including, the pacer that will be pacing my time and Phil’s mom, Carolyne, who is flying in from Florida to run the race too.

Well, that is pretty much it for now.  Wish me luck and I’ll write a race report and let you know how things turned out.

Good luck to everyone else racing this weekend! And don’t forget to keep thinking positive thoughts!
